The NPP has launched its manifesto ahead of the 2020 elections at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on August 22, 2020.
In an address by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the manifesto launch, he stated that his government will set aside GHC 100 million into a new National Rental Assistance Scheme (NRAS) if given the mandate to rule for a second term.
“The National Rent Assistance Scheme will give you a loan to pay your rent allowance”, he said.
“We’re paying not to you but to your landlord. We’re going to put in place GHC 100 million into the new National Rental Assistance Scheme”.
He added that the money will be deducted from the tenant’s account on a monthly basis. Pointing out that, “There’s a market failure between what the tenants want and what the landlords want”, he said the initiative will help in bridging the gap between what tenants want and what landlords want.
Dr. Bawumia also added that the private sector will be included to help pool resources in order to make the scheme successful.
