The Ghana revenue authority replaces the tax identification number(TIN) with the Ghana card. This new initiative conforms to the government of Ghana’s policy of using a unique number to identify all transactions.
The Ghana revenue authority revealed in a recent statement that, in other to ensure a smooth transition from TIN’s to the Ghana card, registration offices have been stationed within 14 of the Ghana revenue authorities offices across the length and breadth of the country.
The selected offices to roll-out this initiative include the following:
- Registrar General’s Department – Accra (Ministries)
- Taxpayer Service Center at Adabraka – Accra
- Taxpayer Service Center at Asokwa in Kumasi
- Taxpayer Service Center at Wa
- Taxpayer Service Center at Cape Coast.
Subsequently, the national identification authority (NIA) will set up 63 more registration offices in other locations to serve the entire taxpayer populace in the country.
In the statement released by the Ghana revenue authority, there will be a transition period to switch from the TIN to Ghana card PIN. The transition period will be from the 1st of April 2021 to 31st December, 2021. Within the transition period, both PINs may be used simultaneously.
After the transition period has elapsed, the Ghana card PIN will permanently replace the tax identification number (TIN).
The Ghana revenue authority (GRA) has made available a self-service portal on their website for all existing taxpayers who have already been furnished with the Ghana card to link their TIN with the Ghana card PIN.
A Self-Service portal has also been made available on the GRA website for existing taxpayers who have registered and have been issued with Ghana cards to link their Ghana card PIN to their TIN.
It is however advised that all working individuals with a Ghana card should visit any GRA office to be captured as taxpayers.
The GRA admonished that, the Ghana card PIN should be quoted on forms for the following services;
- Filing of returns
- Payment of taxes
- Clearing of goods
- Registering of businesses
- Application Forms
