James Kwesi Appiah has expressed strong confidence in Ghana’s prospects ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging the Black Stars to approach every group stage match with focus, belief, and a winning mentality.
Appiah, who is currently the head coach of the Sudan national team and previously served Ghana in both assistant and head coach roles, shared his thoughts in an interview with Akoma FM. He stressed that performance at the World Cup depends heavily on preparation and mindset, noting that no opponent should be underestimated at the global tournament to be hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico.
According to the experienced coach, every team Ghana will face at the group stage is beatable if the Black Stars prepare thoroughly and maintain discipline on and off the pitch. He also highlighted the importance of keeping players injury free both before the tournament and throughout the competition.
Appiah explained that physical readiness must go hand in hand with strong mental preparation. He added that players should enter each match with confidence and determination, believing that victory is achievable regardless of the opposition.
He further encouraged the technical team and players to treat every group match as crucial, explaining that consistent performance across all games often determines how far a team advances at the World Cup.
Ghana, which is a four-time African champion, will be making its fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup in 2026. The Black Stars’ best performance remains the 2010 tournament in South Africa, where they reached the quarter final stage and narrowly missed out on a historic semi final appearance.
Appiah believes that with proper planning, discipline and unity, Ghana can once again make a strong impact on the world stage and deliver a memorable World Cup campaign for supporters.
