Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, has called on former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong to put aside his grievances with the party and join efforts to foster unity as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
The appeal follows Agyapong’s recent declaration that he will not be bullied or quieted by internal criticism from the NPP. He cautioned that if party members continue to provoke him by dismissing his statements, he may release even more sensitive information.
In a statement released on Friday, June 19, 2026, Dr. Acheampong empathized with the frustration that comes with a lost presidential bid. He noted that he had gone through a similar ordeal after participating in the NPP’s January 2026 presidential primary.
“I’m speaking not as an outsider to our recent contest, but as someone who took part in it,” he said. He added that he fully understands “the heavy burden of disappointment after a fiercely contested campaign and the deep emotions felt by candidates and their supporters.”
The Abetifi MP emphasized that after the NPP’s tough loss in 2024, the most critical goal between now and 2028 is to rebuild the party, restore unity, and reclaim power.
However, Acheampong voiced worry about Agyapong’s recent comments and what he saw as threats directed at the party and some individuals.
“Ken is a true son of this party,” he stated.
“His energy, resources, and decades of loyalty are beyond question. That is precisely why I respectfully but strongly urge him to lower the temperature and use his significant influence to promote healing instead of division.”
Dr. Acheampong also appealed to supporters from both sides to refrain from actions that could widen the rifts within the party.
“So, I call on Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, his supporters, and my own: let us put away the tools of internal conflict,” he said. “Let us unite behind our flagbearer so that in 2028, the New Patriotic Party can once again serve the people of Ghana.”
He stressed that personal frustrations must not stand in the way of the party’s mission to regain power, adding that unity is the NPP’s strongest route back to electoral success.
