Speaker Bagbin Elected President of African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption.

The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has been elected President of the African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption (APNAC) at the organisation’s 9th Biennial General Meeting held in Accra last week.

Mr. Bagbin’s election marks a major milestone in his parliamentary career and highlights Ghana’s growing influence in Africa’s governance and anti-corruption agenda.

Bagbin Pledges to Promote Integrity and Accountability

Accepting his new role, Speaker Bagbin pledged to champion transparency, accountability, and integrity across Africa’s leadership institutions. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the continent’s collective fight against corruption.

In his acceptance remarks, he commended the outgoing APNAC President and Board Members for their service and dedication, describing their leadership as a foundation for the future.
“The Network remains thankful for their dedication, collective wisdom, and lasting contribution,” he said.

Unity and Collaboration in the Fight Against Corruption

Mr. Bagbin emphasized that progress in combating corruption will depend on unity and cooperation among African parliaments.
“Collective effort is vital to strengthening legislatures, improving accountability, and building a continent where integrity becomes a standard practice,” he stated.

He also stressed the importance of building strong institutions and ensuring that laws enacted by parliaments are effectively enforced to prevent abuse of power.

Recent International Recognition

The Speaker’s latest continental appointment follows his selection to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Task Force on the peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, where he serves alongside seven other international parliamentarians.

According to the IPU President, Mr. Bagbin was chosen for his integrity, impartiality, and ability to build trust with all parties. The IPU Task Force, established in March 2022, has since held more than thirteen meetings and undertaken diplomatic missions to Kyiv and Moscow in pursuit of peace.

As part of his duties, Mr. Bagbin will attend IPU Assemblies, participate in hearings, and engage in discussions with both Ukrainian and Russian parliamentary delegations.
