Flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged the party’s Minority in Parliament to position themselves as a government-in-waiting ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at a pre-Parliament meeting ahead of the resumption of the Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament in Accra on Wednesday, May 20, with the Minority Members of Parliament, Dr. Bawumia said the period of the NPP’s 2024 defeat is over and now it’s time to reflect post 2028 election.
According to him, the focus must now shift towards rebuilding public confidence and presenting the NPP as a credible alternative government.
“We have finished the period of introspection. We must now position ourselves credibly as a party preparing to govern from January 7, 2029,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia stressed that the conduct of NPP MPs both in Parliament and within their constituencies would shape public perception about the party’s readiness to return to power.
He noted that every statement, engagement and parliamentary action by the Minority should convince Ghanaians that the NPP remains capable of leading the country effectively.
The former Vice President also cautioned against complacency and internal division, insisting that unity within the caucus would be crucial to the party’s rebuilding efforts.
