Ghana Slashes Passport Fees to GHS 350 as New Chip-Embedded Passport Rolls Out November 13
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, led by Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced a significant reduction in the cost of Ghana’s new chip-embedded passport from GHS 500 to GHS 350, effective Thursday, November 13, 2025.
According to the minister, the decision aims to make passport acquisition more affordable for citizens while improving the overall efficiency and security of the passport system.
The newly introduced chip-embedded passport comes with advanced digital security and biometric features, including an electronic tracking system, making it fully ICAO-compliant to meet international aviation and travel standards.
Applicants are expected to receive their passports within 15 days after successful submission. The ministry has also introduced a courier delivery service, allowing applicants to get their passports delivered directly to their doorstep.
In a major operational upgrade, the Passport Office will now run 24 hours daily, offering continuous services to meet the growing demand for travel documents.
The fee reduction has already received Cabinet approval and Will take effect on the 13 of November,2025
This initiative forms part of a broader digital transformation agenda aimed at improving service delivery, transparency, and convenience for all Ghanaians.
