The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has strongly refuted reports suggesting it is considering selling its newly commissioned headquarters, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In an official statement released today, the central bank dismissed the publication, clarifying that it is neither considering, discussing, nor planning to sell the facility.
“The Bank of Ghana categorically states that this report is false and misleading,” the statement read.
Construction of the new headquarters, known as The Bank Square, began in 2019 under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. It was officially commissioned by then-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in November 2024. The modern facility replaced the Bank’s previous headquarters, which had become inadequate and raised safety concerns. The Bank moved its operations to The Bank Square in September 2025.
The BoG emphasized that the new headquarters remains a critical asset essential for supporting its operations and fulfilling its statutory mandate.
“We urge the public and the media to disregard this publication. Unverified reports of this nature have the potential to undermine public confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary market uncertainty,” the central bank warned.
The denial follows a report by MyJoyOnline that had claimed the Bank was considering a sale of the new HQ.
