Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has asked her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, to leave her alone, claiming that their union was never legally recognized.
In a statement shared on Instagram early Sunday morning, the actress admitted that she once used drugs but maintained that her use of drugs was not the real cause of their marital problems.
“Fine, I did drugs. So what? Is that even the issue between us?” she wrote. “The moment we had a fight, you rushed to the public shouting ‘drugs, drugs, drugs,’ because you knew it would make a perfect story for the media, something dramatic enough to distract everyone from the real issue.”
According to Regina, the real issue was Nwoko’s alleged attempts to isolate her from her loved ones and exert total control over her life. She accused the senator of planning to arrest her friends and close associates to make her dependent on him.
“You want to find a reason to arrest everyone around me so that I will have no one left beside me, no friend, no support, no safe place to turn to,” she claimed. “Then when I’m completely isolated and broken, I will be forced to come back to you because I will have nowhere else to go.”
The movie star also accused Nwoko of seizing her phones for weeks to prevent her from communicating with family and friends. She further alleged that she was locked in a room and labelled mentally unstable whenever she attempted to leave the relationship.
“Every problem we have had started when I no longer wanted you, whether sober or even high,” Regina wrote, urging the lawmaker to “tell people the truth.”
Regina Daniels went on to clarify that their union had no legal standing, insisting they were never married in any court of law.
“And for the record, I would have filed for divorce long ago if there was ever a legal marriage between us. We were never married in any court of law, and no documents were signed. Leave me alone, Ned. Marriage is not by force. Love is not by force. Stop trying to control what no longer belongs to you!”
The statement comes just days after a viral video showed the actress crying and expressing frustration over what she described as violence and mistreatment in her marriage.
On October 18, Regina was seen in tears, saying, “In Ned Nwoko’s house, I am nothing. But in my house, I am a queen. Not again. I can’t stand the violence, it’s too much.”
In response, Senator Nwoko denied all allegations, claiming that his wife’s recent actions were influenced by drug and alcohol abuse and insisting that she needed rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, on November 6, the police reportedly charged Regina’s brother, Samuel Ojeogwu, following a petition filed by Nwoko. He faces accusations of criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, intimidation, and theft and has been remanded in custody pending bail conditions.
The ongoing dispute between Regina Daniels and Ned Nwoko has stirred widespread reactions across social media, with fans and celebrities expressing concern for the actress’s well-being.
