Six Private Security Guards Arrested in Connection with Shooting Incident Involving Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo in Kwabenya

The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with a shooting incident that injured Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo at Kwabenya on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

According to a press release issued by the Regional Public Affairs Unit, the arrests followed a distress call received by personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered that a ceremony was underway at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as Akofena. Hon. Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived at the premises and requested access but was denied entry.

Police investigations revealed that armed security personnel at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the confrontation, resulting in injuries to Hon. Adwoa Safo. Her vehicle was also found with multiple gunshot marks.

A subsequent search by police led to the recovery of five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, and an additional magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition, along with other communication equipment.

“The suspects and exhibits have been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist ongoing investigations,” the release stated.

Investigations are continuing to locate and arrest all other persons connected to the incident.
The press release, signed by Ms. Juliana Obeng (SUPT), Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, described the development as “Update 1” and emphasized that preliminary findings point to the involvement of the arrested private security guards.
