STC Bus Carried Off by Floodwaters in Achimota–Abofu

A State Transport Corporation (STC) bus was swept away by powerful floodwaters in the Achimota–Abofu area on Monday following heavy downpours that have triggered widespread flooding and hazardous conditions across parts of Accra.

The incident took place on June 29 after intense rainfall caused water levels to rise rapidly, transforming sections of the road into swift, raging streams strong enough to overpower the vehicle.

According to eyewitness accounts, the bus was suddenly caught in the powerful current and dragged away by the flooding, sparking alarm among local residents.

This latest event has heightened worries about the ongoing heavy rains in the capital, which have already caused flooding in multiple communities, brought traffic to a standstill in several areas, and made key roads temporarily unusable.

No official reports on casualties have been released so far.
