The Nsuta Circuit Court in Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region, presided over by Judge Simon Nkatiah Gagah, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, ordered the remand of ten individuals into police custody on suspicion of involvement in narcotics offences.
The accused Gideon Boadi (also known as Owuo), Eugene Kwarteng, Ernest Konadu, James Kwarteng, Kwaku Thompson Agyemang, Isaac Asare (alias A6), Akwasi Kuffour, Bismark Opoku, Mohammed Sen, and Stephen Kwarteng — are all residents of different areas within the Atonsu community.
Prosecuting the case, Chief Inspector Owusu Kobi Moses told the court that the complaint was filed by the Ashanti Regional Police Management Board, led by DCOP Felix Apedo.
According to the prosecution, rising concerns about drug-related activities in Atonsu were discussed during a Regional Police Management Board meeting on June 19, 2026. The area was reportedly turning into a major centre for the sale and distribution of illegal drugs.
In response, police worked with local community leaders to plan and execute a targeted operation. On June 21, 2026, a Regional Operations Team headed by ASP Moses Kpajal raided spots in Atonsu and nearby areas.
The ten suspects were arrested inside what police described as a “ghetto,” where they were allegedly selling narcotic substances.
During the operation, officers recovered 102 wraps and half a block of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis (Indian hemp), 13 tablets of 250mg Tramadol, and two unregistered motorcycles believed to be stolen. Police have contacted the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Mampong to help trace the rightful owners of the bikes.
The prosecution requested the remand to allow time for the suspected drugs to be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for testing and analysis. Due to the serious nature of the narcotics case, the court did not take pleas from the accused.
The suspects were remanded into police custody, and the case has been adjourned to July 1, 2026, pending the laboratory results.
