Nana Akua Piaa, the Nifahemaa of Aboabo No.1 in the Dormaa Central Municipality, has advised parents to ensure they discipline their children when they err, as stated in the Bible: “Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.”
Nana Akua Piaa emphasized that when children are disciplined for insubordination and other offenses, the nature of their wrongdoing should be communicated to them. This approach will allow them to learn from their mistakes and avoid repeating the same offenses. She stressed the importance of making children aware of the distinction between good and bad, so they refrain from repeating negative behaviors and instead cultivate positive character traits.
Nana Akua Piaa emphasized the importance of parents fostering and sustaining amicable relationships with their children, encouraging them to become their children’s closest confidants. By doing so, children may feel comfortable discussing their issues, thereby paving the way for them to share their challenges. She stressed that this approach will guide children in making prudent decisions, ultimately contributing to a prosperous future.
Furthermore, she advised parents to refrain from persistently shouting at their children, and instead, to closely monitor their activities, friendships, and the environments they live in to prevent the children from being negatively influenced by unsuitable friends or improper guidance from other parents or guardians.
